The first 50 issues are now available from Imagine Publishing as PDFs on an interative disc. This is called an "Emag" and costs £19.99. This is worth mentioning as you can search by section, keyword or game - much more useful than my website - but not free obviously!. Needless-to-say my order was in as soon as I learnt of its existance. Will I sell the my paper copies of the first 50 issues? It would free up some space........Nah.
GamesTm Magazine is my most trusted magazine and has been now for years. It is an intelligent read and it is obvious that they love gaming. I subscribed immediately to a direct debit arrangement (Only £2 per Issue) after reading the impressively shiney first Issue. I used to exclusively read Edge Magazine and I still trust Edge's scoring to an extent, but certainly not all the time! We have to remember the Manhunt - Edge 8/10 to GamesTM 3/10! And don't forget Edge's well off-key and enraging 5/10 for Mario Kart Double Dash (GamesTM 8/10). In light of GamesTM, Edge annoyed me more and more - and with GamesTM giving me less boring industry rubbish and more of the 'Fun-Factor' that I want from my Video gaming hobby - it was time to end my long running subscription to Edge and focus on just GamesTM.
GamesTM Retro section is consistently excellent. My favourite bits are the details of modern remakes, reviews of the brilliant retro collections on the last consoles and the general reminders of some gaming's glory moments. I did subscribe to Retro Gamer Magazine when it first came out but missed Issue 1 and 2. Issue 2 I got as a back issue but Issue 1 was going for silly money on Ebay. I cancelled this subscription after 6 months, for the price, it got boring and the cover discs were nothing one couldn't download. GamesTM is the only retro gaming info source that I need. |
