These are GamesTM's list of essential games. The Essentials lists are a set of 10 excellent games for each format. Up to recently (Issue 46) they were lists of 20 games per list and for a long time the lists were an actual top 20, from 20 to 1 with a top of the 'pops'. From Issue 18 though GamesTM has been an alphabetical list of games not to be missed. Also included in the Issue 47 changes were the review score and the issue that it was reviewed in - about time too - this is exactly the sort of information that I created these pages for in the first place. Great stuff.

I have compiled and included a list of games that used to be in the list and what a game was replaced by if known. I have also added some extra information such as the number of the issue that the game entered the list and the last issue it was seen there.

A few points to note are that some of the early Issues had games bouncing in and out like Yo-yo's! So check the multiple INS and OUTS. And the GBA and PC lists used to have only ten games in their lists - until Issue 13 - so spot the influx of new and reintroduced games . Issue 42 saw the introduction of the PSP, 360 and Nintendo DS Essentials.
